what is “patient active”?
The Wellness Community’s Patient Active Concept
"People with cancer who participate in their fight for recovery from cancer will improve the quality of life and may enhance the possibility of their recover.
Combining the will of the patient with the skill of the physician – A powerful combination.”

Being Patient Active in your recovery is about feeling and acting empowered.
It is your active participation in the choices you and your
health care team make about treatment. Choosing to be Patient
Active is not about one big decision, but rather a series
of small steps and choices that help you regain a sense
of control over your treatment and in your life in general.
There is no right or wrong way to be Patient Active. You
decide what is best for you. To be Patient Active means
that you choose to take specific steps to become empowered
to make informed decisions about your cancer treatment,
the management of treatment side effects, and your general
health and well-being.
Recent research has shown that there are three emotional
problem areas that teens with cancer face in their battle—unwanted
aloneness, loss of control and loss of hope. One important
way to reduce these stresses—specifically the loss
of control – is to participate (along with your parents
and family, and other teens with cancer) in educational
and support programs such as Group Loop. Learn all that you need to know in order to improve you life and help you recover.
