what does a
facilitator do?
One thing that makes The Wellness Community’s (TWC)
Online Support Groups so different is the role of our professional
facilitators. Your Group Loop facilitator is trained to
help the group stay focused and provide a safe, caring place
for teens 2 talk to teens.
| Rest assured that Group Loop’s facilitators are experienced at understanding how groups work and how to work with teens with cancer. |
Rest assured that Group Loop’s facilitators are experienced at understanding how groups work and how to work with teens with cancer. Your facilitator will share his/her thoughts, feelings,
concerns and reactions. However, regardless
of our facilitators’ training and experience, you
are far more knowledgeable about dealing with cancer and
the effect it has on your life. You are the expert about
your personal reactions that you choose to share with the
group. The facilitator will help the group connect so that
you may give and receive support from each other.
The facilitator and the other Group Loop members are there
to help you look at issues, ask hard questions, and support
you as you explore difficult decisions—not to make
them for you.
| The facilitator will help the group connect so that you may give and receive support from each other.
|
group loop facilitators must follow several guidelines
during your online support group.
- Your facilitator will not discuss a problem with you
outside of the Online Support Group. In all likelihood, he/she will suggest that you discuss
the problem in the next group or in the Discussion Board.
- It is best that you avoid asking your facilitator to
talk with you privately or to discuss a problem that you
think you would not feel comfortable talking about in
group. Most likely, your facilitator will suggest that it is
your decision whether to bring any information back to
the group or not.
- Facilitators have learned that there is a lot to gain
from sharing when you are comfortable and feel ready.
This may result in a positive feeling of having taken
control of that piece of your life.
The facilitator's role is to help keep the group focused
and help you interact more fully with each
other. Group Loop’s Online Support Groups are for
education, information and support and are not intended
as psychotherapy. There is no intended or implied doctor
patient relationship.
