"but i look like a freak!"

So maybe you lost some (most?) of your hair due to chemo, and maybe you have lost or gained weight, or you have some nasty scars. But remember, you are still you, and you don't need to hide out. Yes, everyone is embarrassed when they look or feel differently, but there are things you can do to help while your body recovers from treatment.

  • Let people you trust at school know what you're going through, so they can be supportive and help. This includes teachers and friends who may be afraid to ask you questions. Actually, they may be more scared than you.
  • Be prepared for the insensitive person who says something dumb.
